Featured Links: December 2001

Welcome to this month's Featured Links section. You can catch up on previous Featured Links here:

The first featured link this month, Feminae Romanae: The Women of Ancient Rome, breaks the rules for inclusion here in that it is not a New Testament site. But I have no doubt that it will be of interest to users of The New Testament Gateway -- I am sure you'll enjoy it as much as I have. The second featured link for December is Bible Places.com, which is full of well-produced photographs of "Bible Places". The third featured link picks up from November's listing of Bible Database and lists a similar free Bible programme called E-Sword, an excellent, customizable piece of software.

Feminae Romanae: The Women of Ancient Rome
By Suzanne Cross. "From the Empress to her freedwoman, the good wife to the prostitute, the midwife to the scholar, this site presents an introduction to the history of the women of ancient Rome". An excellent new web site from the author of the acclaimed Julius Caesar: The Last Dictator. Informative, illustrated and well designed, with reading and links for further exploration.

Bible Places.com
Photographs and descriptions of sites in Israel, Jordan, Egypt, Turkey and Greece with an emphasis on biblical archaeology, geography and history. Although this site has a partly commercial focus, there is much here available for all users, including descriptions, links and -- most importantly -- many high quality photographs.

E-Sword
By Rick Meyers: excellent, free bible programme. Download this onto your computer and then select which modules you would like to add. They include translations like Darby, KJV, 1901 American Standard Version, Good News Bible as well as a Greek New Testament and a Hebrew Old Testament. You can compare versions and translations for selected verses. You can make your own study notes as you go and there are several dictionaries, commentaries and graphics available (including Robertson's Word Pictures of the New Testament). Customise it for your own needs.
