- What is The New Testament Gateway?
The New Testament Gateway is a comprehensive directory of academic internet resources related to the New Testament. It is divided into (at present) nine sub-directories and dozens of pages, each relating to a specific topic. Every link is annotated. The annotations help users to pinpoint the information for which they are looking. The New Testament Gateway focuses on resources that will be of interest to both scholars and students of the New Testament.
- Who is responsible for The New Testament Gateway?
The author is Dr Mark Goodacre. I am Lecturer in New Testament in the Department of Theology at the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom. For more information about my publications and other internet resources, see my homepage.
- Who is your web designer?
From the inception of The New Testament Gateway until June 2000, I did all the design work myself, hand-coding the HTML using simple text editors like "notepad". From June 2000 until October 2001 Viola Goodacre (my wife) did a major redesign of the site. Now that Viola is busy with other things, the NT Gateway is back to being authored by me again, though with massive gratitude to Viola for the fine work she did.
- What is the history of The New Testament Gateway?
The New Testament Gateway began in 1997 as a "Useful Links" section on my homepage, largely for teaching purposes. By 1998 this section had grown big, so I loosed it off from the homepage and called it "Recommended New Testament Web Resources". This proved to be a bit of a mouthful and in 1999 it became first "New Testament Web Resources" and finally The New Testament Gateway. During its life, the pages have multiplied and more are planned in the future. The site has evolved as people send me suggestions for improvement and as I notice holes that need filling.
- Who uses The New Testament Gateway?
The site currently gets between 30,000 and 40,000 visits a month, viewing between 100,000 and 120,000 pages between them. There are visitors from all over the globe including students and scholars, clergy, interested amateurs and those simply looking to be educated on a given topic. There is no typical user of The New Testament Gateway -- background, religious affiliation, age, gender make no difference -- but all share a common interest in studying the New Testament.
