Yale Bible Studies (video)

I have made changes to the Luke, John, and Paul pages to provide links to the Yale Bible Study series on Luke, John, Romans and 1 Corinthians. In each case, YBS offers eight half-hour videos of conversations between Harold Attridge and David Bartlett.

        Introduction and Learning page updated

As regular users of the NT Gateway will know, we have been updating the site by introducing lots of guidance for new students. This work will be continuing as we hope to make the site ever more useful for new users. But in checking up the site today, I noticed that the general page on Introduction and Learning resources was looking very long in the tooth, with several dead links. I have now refreshed the page and updated or deleted broken links. I’ll introduce more materials there in due course.

          Luke-Acts Audio and Video Updated

I have updated the link to Luke-Acts Audio and Video page:

Lecture delivered at the MacLaurin Institute, 12 April 2007 (mp3).

I have also added the links to the following videos (with embedding too):

Video introduction to the Gospel of Luke, from the University of Nottingham’s Bibledex project:

Video introduction to Acts of the Apostles, from the University of Nottingham’s Bibledex project

By Richard Burridge; video produced by St John’s Nottingham.

            Journal of Ancient Judaism

Ekaterini G. Tsalampouni notes that Vandenhock & Ruprecht, one of the traditional German theological publishers, are publishing a new Journal, namely the Journal of Ancient Judaism. Nothing for NT studies in the first issue, but it may be worth watching. It is not likely to go open access, of course. Still, the first issue is currently available for free downloading.

              Lutheran Theological Review

Following Mark’s link to the pistis christou article from Lutheran Theological Review (both at at the Brock University site (which also includes an index file) and the Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary site, here are the other relevant articles from the free online archive of that journal which could be argued to fall within the area of New Testament studies:

                Another new Pistis Christou Article

Well, it’s new to the NT Gateway, at least:

Sigve Tonstad, “Pistis Christou: Reading Paul in a New Paradigm”, Andrews University Seminary Studies 40:1 (2002): 37-59 [PDF]

It’s on the Paul: Books and Articles page. That page is now so large that I think we may be ready soon for some more subdivisions after the birth of separate sections on each epistle last year. One option would be to go with themes like the “faith of Jesus Christ” debate.

I have also updated several URLs, Mary Ann Tolbert, “Homoeroticism in the Biblical World: Biblical Texts in Historical Contexts”; James Tabor, “The Message and Mission of Paul” and N. T. Wright, “Paul’s Gospel and Caesar’s Empire”.

                  William Wrede’s Paul online

One of the classics on Paul is now available in full online:

                  W. Wrede, Paul (translated by E. W. Lummis; London: Philip Green, 1907)

I have added a link to the Paul: Books and Articles page. On the same page, I have also corrected the URL for the following:

Dale B. Martin, “Arsenokoites and Malakos: Meanings and Consequences”, in Brawley, Robert L (ed.), Biblical Ethics & Homosexuality: Listening to Scripture (Louisville: Westminster John Knox Press, 1996), 117-36.

Update (Friday, 10.41): With thanks to several commenters, it seems that the book is not available in toto everywhere, e.g. it is not available in the UK. It is not yet on archive.org, though the German original, Paulus, is. If anyone fancies uploading the PDF to archive.org, that would be great. Please let me know if you do.

Update (Friday, 10.56): Further comments over on the NT Blog, with a link to atemporary PDF upload of the book in my web space.
